4th International Symposium on Interlinguistic and Intercultural Contacts
The School of Language Sciences and the Master’s program in Interlinguistic and Intercultural Studies at Universidad del Valle are pleased to invite you to the IV International Symposium on Interlinguistic and Intercultural Contacts. The main theme is Communication and language education in the postmodern era: In search of new paths. The event will be hosted in person from November 5th to 9th, 2024, at Universidad del Valle, Cali, Colombia (Meléndez Campus).
Our aim is to provide spaces for dialogue, recognition, discussion and debate on communicative and linguistic phenomena in intercultural exchanges and language learning, teaching and assessment. We will discuss conceptions, experiences, pedagogical reflections and research projects on the event’s theme from social, critical, intercultural and bi/pluri/multi/lingual perspectives. We look forward to the participation of the local, national and international academic community and their contributions to the different strands of the event.

Free registration groups must certify their membership in these categories (e.g., student card, the Univalle tuition certificate, a work certificate, or an indigenous council certification).
All the groups that benefit from the total discount will be awarded their attendance certificates only if they complete at least 70% of attendance at event activities.

Interculturality, diversity and
education in bi/multi/multilingual contexts
This strand addresses issues related to the development and assessment of intercultural communicative competence, intercultural educational actions, pluralistic and inclusive didactic and curricular approaches, literature, and interculturality. The strand includes research and pedagogical experiences related to the nature of bi/multi/plurilingual contacts of individual, group or social type through auditory-vocal and visual-gestural communication among hearing, deaf and deaf-blind populations.

Translation, interpretation and terminology
from intercultural and interlingual perspectives
This strand includes discussing the practices and epistemological foundations of translation, interpretation, and terminology that require responding to the needs and challenges of oral, written or visual-gestural communication in various personal, social, academic, administrative and professional areas in post-modernity. In addition, it includes studies on the education of translators and interpreters, the ethics of translation and interpretation, textual, cognitive, and corpus linguistics, intercultural mediation, and the use of technology in translation practices, terminology, and interpretation.
